Frequently asked questions about ktzr.io short links
Straight answers, no fine print. The numbers here match the pricing page; report a harmful link on the abuse page, and data details live in the privacy policy. Need a WhatsApp link? Try our free WhatsApp link generator. Need a QR code for a link? We have a free QR code generator too, and a guide to wedding QR codes. Longer answers, with sources, are in the guides: do short links expire, which shorteners show ads, what Bitly's free plan allows, and how to check a short link before opening it.
Are short links safe?
A short link is just a redirect (HTTP 302) to the original address, so it is as safe as the shortener behind it. On ktzr.io every destination is screened against Google Web Risk when it is created or edited, there is no ad or interstitial page, and a disabled link answers HTTP 410 instead of redirecting.
Is there an ad or a preview page before the redirect?
No. A ktzr.io link redirects straight to the destination: no ads, no interstitial page, no tracking pixels.
We are moving from bit.ly. How do we start?
Sign up for free and create new links here for your destinations, in the app or through the API. The free plan holds up to 100 active links and allows 20 link actions an hour. A new account can create up to 5 links in its first 24 hours. Existing bit.ly links keep working at bit.ly; links cannot be "transferred" between domains, so update the places where your links are published to the new ktzr.io links.
Why can I not shorten a bit.ly (or other shortener) link?
Chaining shorteners hides the final destination and is abused for fraud, so shortening links from other shorteners is blocked. Shorten the original destination address directly.
We printed a QR code on invitations. Will it keep working?
Yes. The QR code points at the short link, not the destination. You can update the destination whenever you want, and the printed QR keeps working exactly as before. As long as the link is not deleted, the QR is valid.
What happens to a link we deleted?
It stops redirecting and answers HTTP 410 (Gone). Its short address is never assigned to anyone else, so nobody can ever "inherit" a link printed on your invitation.
How do you separate real people from bots in the statistics?
Link previews (WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook), search crawlers, and other known bots are identified by their browser signature and counted separately, in a dedicated field. The main number reflects real visitors.
Can I pick a Hebrew short address?
No. Custom back-halves are 3 to 50 characters from Latin letters, digits, hyphen, and underscore (a-z, A-Z, 0-9, -, _). Hebrew in the address breaks in some browsers, printers, and invitation systems, so we chose not to support it. Choosing a custom back-half is currently available to admin accounts only (planned for Pro).
I found a ktzr.io link leading to harmful content. What do I do?
Report it on our abuse page; no account is needed. In addition, every destination is automatically checked against Google Web Risk at creation and on every edit, and rescanned daily during its first 30 days; dangerous links are disabled.
Where is our data stored?
On Google Cloud in the European Union: the database is Firestore in region eur3 and the servers run in Europe. Full details on the privacy page.
What does the free tier include, and what are the limits?
The free plan includes 100 active links, 20 link actions per hour (create, edit or delete), a QR code for every link, 90 days of daily statistics with bot filtering, tags, and up to 10 API keys. Deleting a link frees its slot. A new account is limited to 5 links in its first 24 hours (an anti-abuse guard).
Do links or QR codes expire?
No. A link never expires on its own: it stays live until you delete it (or it is disabled for abuse), and its QR code keeps working because it points at the short link, not at the destination.
Can I use my own domain?
Not yet. Every link lives on ktzr.io today; custom domains are planned for a later paid plan. Custom back-halves (choosing your own ending) are admin-only today and planned for Pro.
Can I shorten a WhatsApp (wa.me) link?
Yes. Build a wa.me link with the number and the prefilled message, paste it into the app, and you get a short link plus a QR code. You can change the number or the message later without replacing the printed link.
Why does my link show fewer clicks than I expected?
Link previews (WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, iMessage), search crawlers and other known bots are counted separately as bot visits; HEAD requests are never counted at all. The statistics lag by up to a few seconds. The main number reflects real people who followed the link.
Is ktzr.io related to Katzr.Net?
No. Katzr.Net is an unrelated service with a different operator. ktzr.io ("קצר", Hebrew for "short") is this site: no ads or interstitial pages, a designed QR code per link, statistics with bots counted separately, an API, and data stored in the EU.
Does updating a link’s destination change the short address?
No. The short address and the QR stay the same; only the destination changes. Every destination edit is kept in the link’s history, so you can always see what changed and when.
